LifeCharger is an innovative startup founded in 2019 to develop innovative mHealth and eHealth solutions to
1) Support the synergy and the therapeutic alliance between PATIENT, INFORMAL CAREGIVERS and PROFESSIONAL CAREGIVERS
2) Facilitate patient’s self-monitoring and remote patient monitoring
3) Improve patients’ engagement and therapeutic adherence for patients, especially chronic patients, performing at-home therapies.
Who we are, a little bit of history...
The idea of exploiting the potential of Mobile Health to support people with chronic diseases born in 2015 from the experiences gained in the context of different European research projects. Through the development of the first prototypes it was possible to start experiments in particular with the National Cancer Institute (Istituto Nazionale dei Tumori), as part of the Me.Me.Me. project where the LifeCharger App was introduced to strengthen the adherence of participants to pharmacologic treatment, and with Casa di Cura del Policlinico for the support in the management of drug therapy for Parkinson's patients. At the end of 2019, the ReHubILITY project started, coordinated by ICS Maugeri, co-financed by the Lombardy Region with the Hub Research and Innovation call. The project, which began in February 2020 and will end in July 2022, plans to create a rehabilitation system that can be used independently by patients. The project made it possible to consolidate and strengthen the entire SynCare system from an App to a real telemedicine platform that can be integrated with hospital information systems. Also in 2020, some collaborations were started with associations of people carrying genetic mutations with a high oncological risk for the creation of specific applications to support members. In 2021 LifeCharger won as a member of the SmartHT consortium the first 2 phases of the HSMonitor Pre-Commercial Procurement call for the creation of an integrated system for taking care of people with hypertension. In the last quarter of 2021, negotiations were started with some utilities for the provision of services with a view to "the home as a hub of well-being and health". The start-up of the provision of these services will take place during the first quarter of 2022.
The patient at the center: prevention and management of chronicity
From the point of view of LifeCharger, placing the patient at the center means thinking about Digital Health solutions that can help the person adopt pathways that reduce the incidence and severity of diseases and help them manage their chronic conditions. Placing the patient at the center means taking into account the context in which he is inserted, a context made of professionals (GPs, specialists, etc.) but also of informal caregivers and families; digital must facilitate the sharing of relevant information among all these subjects.
The demand for health-related digital services is growing
The pandemic has given a significant boost to the demand for digital services in the health sector both in terms of "video visits" and the use of medical devices, exchange of clinical documents (for example electronic prescriptions), search for information and exchange of " health data "with your GP, etc .. The age group with the highest growth rates is that of the so-called "boomers". From 45 years onwards, many begin a path of greater attention to their health or are already facing chronic conditions. Expectations for digital solutions that can simplify interaction with health professionals, but also help in the management of treatment and prevention paths is high.
